Never really bought into the "ADD" theory of children because I never thought it was right to force a young child, filled with constant energy and creativity, to be silent and contained while in school or even at home. Parents now (not all), place their children on mood stabalizing drugs to feed some theory that children need to be leveled out, not realizing the damage that these mood drugs are doing internally. What I tried to depict in this piece is the abstract vision of a child's mind, screaming out for release, and the skull below is the death of their childhood years of being crazy, having fun, and most importantly being a child.
That's pretty cool. It makes sense and I totally get it. My mom swore I had ADD so she got me tested, more than willing to put me on the meds. Turns out I was negative(even though at this point I think it should have been positive). But, I agree and I'm glad I wasn't put on the drugs. I've always been creative and thats how I like it ^_^

heh, there's no such thing as ADD, it's a brand scientists give to slightly harder to control kids with parents who can't control their kids. To dose them up until they're docile instead of teaching parents to do their duty as parents better is a bag of crap.
totally agree with you on the anti-creativity-smushing ideals
the concepts you put into your work really are stuff that shoul be payed more attention to rather than 'Angelina Jolie is adopting!'. Your artwork n this one is really amazing too.
My mum swears that I have ADD. Fortunately, she's one of the few who would never be willing to put me on meds O.o;;
While I agree with your logic in the comment, I have to say I disagree slightly.
I go to a special education school, filled with kids with a variety of differences. Some of them like the central focus here have ADD/ADHD. While the drugs do take away from the creativity and the chance to be a kid, you gotta admit here that there have to be boundaries.
When day in and day out you sit through class with the same disruptions, those drugs look pretty attractive. I'm not suggesting it for 100% of the time, but I do believe there are times when they are necessary.

Thank you for the kind words. I myself am on Adderall XR because I find myself always drifting in my medical classes. But once class is over, that is where the usage ends. I don't take it during the breaks from school because when I am on it, I am very jittery yet filled with nothing. But the effects it has on me doesn't mean it will do the same to you. Another point that should be made. You cannot expect one drug to "fix them all" when each and every one of us will react different depending on our biological make-up.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
